A report commissioned by directline claimed that many people in the UK upgrade their existing personal technology by committing insurance fraud. According to the survey, single people are the most likely to claim existing kit has been lost or stolen, with one in 10 admitting they'd made fraudulent claims.
But young people are the worst, directline.com claims, with one in seven of 16 to 24 year olds committing insurance in fraud.
However, the survey claims this age group are fashion victims, with 54% of the people surveyed saying that "trend" made a difference as to whether they bought new products or not.
Old people aren't the saintly figures you'd expect, however. One in 20 old age pensioners said they'd tried to defraud insurance firms to get their mitts on new technology.
You won't be surprised to read that Scots are the most honest group, according to the survey. Or perhaps they just don't admit insurance fraud. Only one per cent of Scots and three per cent of Geordies had tried insurance fraud.
The survey, conducted by Taylor Nelson, surveyed over a thousand UK inhabitants.
